Honest Amish beard Care and are hosting a National Beard & Moustache Contest in Syracuse, NY Saturday, April 8th, 2023 to benefit the Syracuse Polish Home.


SYRACUSE, NEW YORK January, 3rd 2023: The Famous Syracuse Hank’s Mustache Club is returning on the 70th anniversary to HELP save the Polish Home’s roof. Honest Amish, the nation's leader in organic beard care products and, the nation's largest fake mustache store has joined forces to bring back Hank Wolek’s beard and mustache club from STARTED IN 1953. The national beard and mustache competition WILL BE HELD on April 8th, 2023 will take place at the Syracuse Polish Home banquet hall on 915 Park Avenue.


Competitors can pay to enter now at Registration opens at noon on Saturday April 8th for prejudging. A Buffet Dinner will be served Banquet seating will begin at 5:30pm; the awards ceremony will commence at 7:00pm, and follow with a victory party from 8:00-10:00 pm.


In 1953 Henry “Hank” Wolek; the owner of Hank’s Cafe on Marcellus Street, began a mustache club that became famous and appeared in the Post Standard. Every week members paid dues and grew mustaches during Lent and shaved them just before Easter Sunday. Beginning January 15th, 2023 competitors can join the memorial 2023 Hank’s Mustache Club. The members have until April 8th to grow a mustache and the winner will receive fifty perfect percent of the membership dues collected; and just like in 1953 all members who sign to compete up will receive 1 ticket to the get a banquet.


Membership dues to Hank’s Mustache Growing Contest is are $5 a week. Entry into the separate Honest Amish beard and mustache contest is $20. There is also an online beard competition for entrants who cannot compete in person.


Banquette wristbands are $40 and include admission to the trophy ceremony, the victory party, and buffet. Trophy ceremony wristbands are $10 and victory party wristbands are $5. Award ceremony MC, judges, and victory party entertainment will be announced on in the upcoming weeks. Winners of the beard contest are to receive trophies and prizes. The contest is self-governed by guidelines used by national competitions and all awards will be recognized internationally.


The event is being organized by is the third generation Wolek business that originated in Syracuse, NY. The Wolek’s operated Hank’s Cafe in the nineteen fifties and also Louis’ Beauty Cottage on Onondaga Hill from the nineteen sixties until the eighties.


The Wolek’s are an American Polish immigrant family who settled in Syracuse in the late nineteenth century. Hank Wolek (1914-1979) was an all-star Syracuse athlete and war veteran who later sponsored city athletics in the nineteen fifties. Many of his teams and athletes, as well as Wolek himself set records and won sports trophies in their primes.


Janet Wolek (1954-2014) was recruited to Disney World in 1989 and became a hair stylist to the biggest movie stars of her generation, such as Sylvester Stallone, Hulk Hogan, Grace Jones, Roseanne Barr, Joan Collins, and others and became a legendary Disney World wig designer.


Hank’s grandson, Ronald Harold Wolek got his fame in Hollywood, California and became an artist with the persona Capt. Ron Wolek. Ron Wolek also organizes the annual beard contest in Key West, FL and authored two books on Santa Claus beards. His Hollywood credits include Walking Dead, Stranger Things, and Vampire Diaries.


The Syracuse Polish Home is a non-profit organization founded in 1919 as a community center that serves the immigrant community of Syracuse, New York. is the 20th century extension of Hank’s Mustache Club and is located in Kissimmee, FL. specializes in Santa Claus Beards and also features handmade false facial hair pieces; including beards, mustaches, toupes, side burns, chest hair, and even merkins.
